About The LivCom Awards 2025 & FAQs


The 23rd LivCom Awards Finals & Forum will take place in Avcilar, Istanbul during 18-21 November 2025, hosted by Avcilar Municipality and supported by UN-Habitat, UNESCO-MOST BRIDGES and academic partner- Alanya University.


LivCom 2025 will be co-organized by the LivCom Committee, the International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP), the International Institute on Ageing/INIA (United Nations- Malta), the United Nations Center for Regional Development (UNCRD), the UNESCO International Center for Human Sciences (UNESCO-CISH), the United Nations University Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS), the Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region & Europe (CEDARE), etc. Since open for registration, LivCom has received registrations of 281 applicants from 52 countries. A total of 30 cities and 37 projects from 34 countries have been invited to the Finals.


Delegates are required to register and complete equipment test at the Youth Center at daytime of 18 November, followed by attending the Opening Ceremony & Welcome Gala Dinner in the evening. The Finals presentations will take place on 19-20 November, with Closing Ceremony & Awards Ceremony in the afternoon of 21 November.


During the Finals, LivCom will collaborate with UN agencies to organize the ‘International Forum on Cultural Innovation and Sustainable Urban Development’ and the ‘UN International Training on Healthy & Positive Ageing Cities and Communities’. Similar to 2024, this year's ‘World Healthy and Positive-Ageing Cities’ pilot project/WHAPAC selection will also be organized concurrently. Besides, the Avcilar Municipality will also arrange city excursion activities and networking events with local cultural features. The two-day USF Conference - Active Ageing and Sustainable Urban Development will also be organized during 19-20 November. Delegates are welcome to attend these events not in conflict with their Presentation sessions.

When will the LivCom Finals be held in 2025?

It will be held in Avcilar Istanbul during 18-21 November, 2025.

Is there any fees for participating in the LivCom Awards?

Participation in the competition is free of charge. However, you will be responsible for covering your round-trip travel, accommodation and personal expenses.

What are the requirements for submissions?

For Whole City Award, the initial written submission should consist of: Maximum of 4,500 words in English – not including titles/tables/headers etc. Maximum of 24 photographs to be captioned and dated.


For Project and T&S Awards, the word limit for a Submission is 3,000, not counting photo captions, maps, tables, diagrams etc., together with up to 12 captioned photographs.


If the submissions pass the evaluation, your delegates will be invited to the Finals in Avcilar Istanbul and make onsite presentations. The Judging Criteria have been upgraded this year. Please check detailed requirements on the website.

How many representatives are allowed for the final Presentation?

If the Submissions pass the preliminary evaluation and the applicants are shortlisted in the Finals, a maximum of three representatives for Whole City Award, Project Award and Technology and Solution Award will be permitted to make the Presentation, plus an interpreter if required. At the end of each Presentation, the Judges will ask questions. The award results will be announced at the Awards Ceremony of LivCom Finals.


Does being invited to the LivCom Finals necessarily mean the applicant will be awarded?

Whether to participate in or win an Award at the LivCom Finals or not will be judged by the LivCom Panel of Judges, based on the combined scores of the Submission, Finals presentation and the answers to the questions, in order to explore the best practices and innovation in building liveable communities. The International Panel of Judges comprises environmental and development management professionals, officials and senior experts from the United Nations, etc. The jury won’t tolerate applicants to falsify the information and evidence provided.
