About The LivCom Awards 2026 & FAQs


The 24th LivCom Awards opened for registration to worldwide cities and projects in March 2026. After joint discussion by the LivCom Committee and partners, it has been confirmed that this year's LivCom Finals & Forum will be organized during 12-15 December, lasting for four days, with the venue to be announced soon. The deadlines for registration and written submission are respetively July 31st and August 31st.


As the phase for 2030 Sustainable Development Goals draw near and the Compact of Future accelerates the advancement, building more inclusive, smart and liveable cities and ensuring that science, technology and innovation contribute to the human rights and greater development benefits for all have become new challenges for local authorities. The theme of this year's LivCom Awards & Forum is set as "Sustainable Humanities and Future Cities", aiming to comprehensively explore how to integrate humanities development and technological changes into urban planning, and look to the relationship between future urban technological innovation and humanities development.


LivCom 2026 will be co-organized by the LivCom Committee, the International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP), the International Institute on Ageing/INIA (United Nations- Malta), the United Nations Center for Regional Development (UNCRD), the United Nations University Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS), the Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region & Europe (CEDARE), etc.The UNESCO Most Bridges Coalition has also become an important partner of LivCom 2026. Similar to previous sessions, it is expected that LivCom will continue to receive applications of hundreds of cities and projects from over 50 countries this year.


The technical conference, the UN training programme and other serial events during the Finals will also be released subsequently. Please stay alert to LivCom announcement and further information released on the website.


When will the LivCom Finals be held in 2026?

It will be held during 12-15 December, 2026. The venue will be released soon.

Is there any fees for participating in the LivCom Awards?

Participation in the competition is free of charge. However, you will be responsible for covering your round-trip travel, accommodation and personal expenses.

What are the requirements for submissions?

For Whole City Award, the initial written submission should consist of: Maximum of 4,500 words in English – not including titles/tables/headers etc. Maximum of 24 photographs to be captioned and dated.


For Project and T&S Awards, the word limit for a Submission is 3,000, not counting photo captions, maps, tables, diagrams etc., together with up to 12 captioned photographs.


The written submission should be provided to LivCom within the proposed deadline.

Does it necessarily mean that the applicants would be awarded after their written submissions passing the evaluation?

If the submissions pass the evaluation by the International Panel of Judges, your delegates will be invited to the Finals and make onsite presentations, followed by questions further asked by the judges. Only those passing the stage of final review during the Finals session will be awarded. The rankings are determined based on total scores.


How many representatives are allowed for the final Presentation?

If the Submissions pass the preliminary evaluation and the applicants are shortlisted in the Finals, a maximum of three representatives for Whole City Award, Project Award and Technology and Solution Award will be permitted to make the Presentation, plus an interpreter if required. At the end of each Presentation, the Judges will ask questions. The award results will be announced at the Awards Ceremony of LivCom Finals.


How is the final review conducted during the Finals session?

The International Panel of Judges comprises environmental and development management professionals, officials and senior experts from the United Nations, etc. Whether to participate in or win an Award at the LivCom Finals or not will be judged by the LivCom Panel of Judges, based on the combined scores of the Submission, Finals presentation and the answers to the questions. The jury won’t tolerate applicants to falsify the information and evidence provided.
